EDEN VALLEY, MN - Helen Grothe would often pray for her husband to stop abusing her. In the 1980's, her and her husband were in a tragic car accident that killed him and left her with a broken leg. Over thirty years later, Grothe channels the pain she physically and emotionally felt from her traumas to share her story with others.
WILLMAR, MN - Kosar and her family members carry suitcases out of their apartment in Willmar to leave for the Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport Mar. 4. Eight of Kosar’s siblings and her two parents are flying back to stay in Garissa, a city in Kenya, for several years while she and her sister Ismahan Kosar stay in Willmar. The Kosar’s traveled back to Kenya to allow the children to familiarize themselves with the family’s culture.
WILLMAR, MN - Emily Schlecht, a former Willmar resident who was sexually assaulted in 2015, gives a tearful speech Nov. 19th at a rally held outside the Kandiyohi County Courthouse in Willmar. Schlecht reported the sexual assault to the police a month after the incident occurred and was later informed there was not enough evidence to charge her perpetrator with the crime. She said her case is now being reopened.
